The Perfectionism

self-portrait

Norman Rockwell has always inspiring through many aspects. The genius way of planning the entire layout and setting, His painting always seems to me that has so many organizing and setting up but yet it seems perfectly natural. He once said “Maybe as I grew up and found the world wasn’t the perfect place I had thought it to be, I unconsciously decided that if it wasn’t an ideal world, it should be, and so painted only the ideal aspects of it.”

One of his most famous paintings during World War II, Rockwell painted the Four Freedoms series, which was completed in seven months and resulted in him losing 15 pounds. The series was inspired by a speech by Franklin D. Roosevelt, in which he described four principles for universal rights: Freedom from Want, Freedom of Speech, Freedom of Worship and Freedom from Fear.

Be Curious and Be Inspired

One of my favorite artists, James Gurney. A well know artist with the creator of Dinotopia. He is a dedicated plein air artist. Be curious and be inspired, these are something molding to him to become a painter. With his book “Color and Light”, put together closer to each other with artist observation and scientific explanation. Talk about so much on the effects of colour and light in an artist point of view. Since I am teaching about Light & Mood colour study, I got so much to learn from it and so much to be inspire from this book. I’ll say this would be one of my bibles, my guild line for the coming research and exploration study.

“Understanding colour and light means grappling with physics, visual perception, and solid geometry, as well as the special vocabularies of painting, photography, computer science, and pschology.” this book put together closer to each other with artist observation and scientific explanation. Talk about so much on the effects of colour and light in an artist point of view. Since I am teaching about Light & Mood colour study, I got so much to learn from it and so much to be inspire from this book. I’ll say this would be one of my bibles, my guild line for the coming research and exploration study. I will following his path on “be curious” and “be inspired” for looking my answer within my research.

“There are no exceptions to the rule that everyone thinks they’re exception to the rule”

This is another artist that inspired me, Banksy. His concept, idea and presentation are so amazing to use specific images to fight back on the political issues. A genius and practical way to use stencil technique and yet, still able to show the art form mostly using black colour with a nicely design negative space. He is such a brilliant that always able to think out of the box, maybe it is time that I need to learn a lot more from him.

Another spectacular short film about graffiti, the amateur film maker (aka Mr. Brainwash) attempted to locate the greatest graffiti artist, Banksy. Through entire film, He tries his best to document all the graffiti artists. This is fun to notice how Mr. Brainwash get stimulated and inspired by the aesthetic and concept behind the art of graffiti. Turns out he was the main focus for his very own short film. By filming him take part on this underground society, following the Banksy’s path way. In the end, amazingly have his very first solo exhibition.

This is so meaningful to me as myself a lecturer that even a ordinary person can be do something really incredible. I will keep that in mind when I facing my fellow student to let them be inspired and go beyond for what they capable of.

The Neon World

Perhaps I should start with something interesting and one of my most favorite cinematographer in the film industry. He talk about visual experience, visual language. This is something where the magic begins, this is the way on how movie connecting to the audience.

“…So you have to love it, you have to trust it, and you have to let it take you where you’re going.”

This is amazing, he is able to adapt and dive into it. Then he confidently breaks it apart to become another form of a beautiful masterpiece. This is part of my aim that I need to learn and practice. That is an important element to get closer to an audience, to make audience to believe the story.
